I have a ipad 2 that died. I am wondering, is there a way to recover the data on the hard drive? Or is that not possible yet? I have it disassembled, the logic board is out - where is the hd? it's a flash memory drive I thought - is it part of the logic board assembly? I couldn't tell.

Powerbook Medic

@pablo - only Apple can do that. Serial numbers are tied to the logic board.

pablo

how to change the logic board serial number after being replaced?

Powerbook Medic

@valerie - you may want to try and connect it to your computer and see if it is detected. If so, it may just be an issue with the connection to the LCD.

i am needing info on why antenna was replaced now it won't come on at all did we leave something unhooked please help me

Powerbook Medic

@Andrew - the back case and logic board and the antenna are the main differences. Each of our products to the right will have a 3G option if that part is different. If you are looking to convert, you may just want to sell us your iPad using the Sell It link at the top of our site and use that money towards a 3G model.

Andrew

Could you go into a little more detail as to the specific hardware differences between a 3G iPad2 and the wifi only model?

Powerbook Medic

@Marcilio - it requires a lot. It really isn't feasible.

Is it possible to convert an iPad 2 16GB WiFi only in a 3G model just buying apropriate 3G Daughter Board and Logic Board parts ? What parts I need to buy to make this upgrade by myself?

Powerbook Medic

@Neil - no

Neil

Can you just order the seal by itself?

Powerbook Medic

@Gary - no, they are identical form factors.

Gary M

If you replace the 16G for a larger Logic Board, are there any other parts that also need to be changed? (like the daughter board, batteries, etc?)

Powerbook Medic

@Gary - yes you can.

If you have an Ipad 2 16GB and you need to change the logic board, can you install a 32G or 64G board as a replacement?

Powerbook Medic

@alex - check your digitizer cable and reseat it.. otherwise your digitizer may be damaged.

Jeff

Is there a replacement charging port for the iPad 2? Or is it connected to the logic board?

Powerbook Medic

@kent - we sell screw sets in the part list to the right.

kent

where can i get the screws i lost some of mines

Powerbook Medic

@eddie - no, it's going to be something else not causing it to work at all. it'll turn on fine with a broken antenna. @Jerry - you should go above the trim.

I replaced my ipad 2 digitizer and broke the wifi antenna. when i power up the ipad it does not work, since the wifi is broken can this be the cause for it not to work? please help.

Does the tool go above or below the rubber trim piece? Will I have to replace any rubber trim when I replace the head phone board?

Brian

One more question :), does the glass with digitizer come with the adhesive tape set for the glass digitizer panel, and the rubber trim piece or should I purchase those separate.

Powerbook Medic

@Brian - it does not.

Brian

Does the iPad 2 have a mid-frame piece, I replaced the digitizer on an iPad 1 and didnt realize I needed to replace the mid frame piece because it was stuck to the digitizer.

Powerbook Medic

@josh - depending on the damage, the logic board would need to be replaced. We sell the boards in the part list to the right. For us to repair it would be an additional $45 labor.

I replaced the Digitizer glass and now my touch screen does not work. I've tried resetting it to factory defaults but nothing. What did I do wrong???

@Steve - this video was made on the first day when no one knew what it looked like inside. We still take apart them the same way, but we are just more aware of where those cables are.

Steve

This video should be pulled from the web site. I have just taken the digitizer off and I cut a wire on the top and the bottom. If you follow this video you will do the same. Especially if you use the longer tool shown in the video.

Powerbook Medic

@Brian - yes thats most likely the case.

Brian

When prying the digitizer off I cut too deep apparently and cut a wire. I can't see where because I didn't fully disassemble. But the power switch doesn't work. Is that the power button ribbon cable assembly that I will need? if I plug in the sync cable, the iPad comes on, so I know it's just the power switch.

Looks like the guys at apple love adhesive, I wonder... what else will they use it for?

Powerbook Medic great job on the Video. keep up the great work.

Powerbook Medic

@Rich - yes we sell it. it is called the ipad opening tool. it should be in the tools list to the right.

Rich

Do you sell or do you know where I can buy one of those metal pry tools the tech is using to remove the glass? I am referring to the shovel head looking tool at the begining. He starts out with two of them. Thanks Rich

Powerbook Medic

@Kandelabra - for sure. but typically if you need to go inside of it, you've most likely voided your warranty by dropping or knowingly damaging it. If you think it is just a defective part, check with Apple first.

Kandelabra

This would basically void the warranty . . . correct?
