@ramon - if you know the battery is good, the only other possibilities are your charger and the logic board.

ramon

nexus 7 does not charge the battery. The battery is good, it seems that the voltage regulator is wrong. need to change the motherboard ??

Powerbook Medic

@Shannon - yes they are interchangeable.

I have a 1st Gen Nexus 7 32GB with a dead board, but can't find a replacement 32GB anywhere. Will an 8gb or 16gb board fit, or do the 32gb have a different chassis?

Powerbook Medic

@Clint - they mostly just act as a ground and to secure it.

Clint

the motherboard has 8 little flexible metal tabs that seem to meet up with metal plates on the back cover. Do you know what these are for? i noticed two were bent out and broke them off while trying to bend them back so they come into contact with their matching plates on the back case. (was hoping this had something to do with my nexus not functioning after replacing the lcd)

Are there any instructions on howto troubleshoot / deteremine what part is bad? My Nexus 7 32gb will not power on at all.

I replaced my cracked screen/digitizer with a brand new one. Now I have no picture whatsoever, but I can still access the files when plugged into a computer. Do you think I might need a new LCD ribbon cable?

Powerbook Medic

@Evan - probably. The only thing after that, however, is the motherboard.

Evan

I bought a replacement LCD and digitizer can't get the LCD to power on at all. I know the nexus has power because I hear incoming emails you think I need a replacement LCD cable?

Powerbook Medic

@bebobman - yes, the flash memory is built onto the logic board.

bebobman

I have the 8gig nexus 7 and I want to increase the amount of memory - preferably to 32Gig's. Is the best way to do this is by simply swapping out the logic board - from an 8 to a 16 or 32 gig? This is assuming the logic board has the memory on it. Or can just the memory on my existing board be changed to a larger capacity?

Powerbook Medic

@Magnus - I would check for any dust that could have gotten into the connector and reseat it. If your old digitizer functioned at all, you may want to try hooking it up again just to confirm it still works, and then try the replacement again. If your old digitizer still functions at all, it is probably something wrong with the replacement and you can return it.

Hi! i bought a new LCD and Digitizer from you and switched my old cracked screen out carefully. The LCD works fine but the touch functions don't. What could be wrong? I can't see any damage on any cable.

Powerbook Medic

@Widlore - we're actually not sure yet.. still waiting to get some in and compare. so for now I'd say no.

Is the Nexus 7 + 3G HSPA+ has this same LCD?

kevin

Thanks! Argh! You don't have any in stock. :(

Powerbook Medic

@kevin - that should be all you need.

The pins inside my micro USB port are mashed up. From the pictures, it is a bit tough to follow, but is this just a simple matter of replacing the I/O cable assembly?

I have a cracked LCD and immediately purchased a screen LCD+Digitizer, however WITHOUT the frame. This led me to have to use a blow dryer and peel off the frame leaving some of the adhesive on the cracked screen. Does anyone know where I can obtain the adhesive tape?

Powerbook Medic

@Eman - we sell them as iPad Opening Tools in the Tools list to the right.

Eman

what tool did he use to open the Nexus? what is the metal thing and where do they sell them?

Powerbook Medic

@Andrey - it's the kind of equipment LCD manufacturers have. I'm not sure what it is called.

Andrey

What kinde special equipment i need to replace digitizer without LCD screen?

Powerbook Medic

@tarik - you'll need to replace the whole display. You may find some digitizers for sale in places, but they are fused together with the LCD and it's hard to do without special equipment.

tarik985

Hello, i was opening my nexus 7, and accidently damage my LCD digitizer. Is it possible to change it, not to have buy whole LCD display?

Powerbook Medic

@cilvic/@baha - we've seen companies selling the digitizer separately, but you need special equipment to fuse an LCD back together with it. Also getting the LCD off the broken digitizer in one piece requires a miracle.

cilvic

@baha where have you read that they can be separated?

baha

my lcd is fine but the glass and digitizer are not, i have read they can be separated and fixed. Its dumb to pay 150$ for a 200$ product. There has to be a cheaper way

Powerbook Medic

@Mike - yes.

can i use battery in 32gb?

Powerbook Medic

@llc - we took it apart to the point where we felt comfortable for customers to perform the repair.

llc

also, i don't mean show us how to separate the screen from the digitizer ( i know they're fused).

llc

Why wouldn't you want to show people who to take apart the screen and digitizer? There are numerous amounts of people searching the web for new screens and you leave that part of your tutorial out? just show how it would be done-what's the big deal?

Steve

Thanks - that's what I thought. Why in the world would the digitizer be available when it cannot be replaced without the screen? Defies logic - ugh!

Powerbook Medic

@Steve - they are fused together.

Steve

My digitizer is broken but my glass is not. I have seen the standalone digitizer for sale at more reasonable cost than the assembly. My question is whether the digitizer can be separated from the glass and replaced. I read something somewhere that they are "fused" together. Thanks.

Powerbook Medic

@laxman - should be interchangeable.

Rick

I just purchased the LCD/Digitizer from you last week. It did not have a frame on it, ergo my question.

Powerbook Medic

@Rick - we sell the frame with the LCD, so we don't go that far.

Rick

Dan asked 3 months ago but got no answer. How does the frame separate from the LCD digitizer. I've got many pieces laying on my kitchen table but don't see how to get the frame off. HELP!!

Powerbook Medic

@paul - they are soldered on. so technically yes you can, but not recommended.

paul

is it possible to separate the charger port and the headphone port? i'm talking about the i/o assembly cable.

Powerbook Medic

@Tom - not many people are getting rid of their Nexus 7s yet so there's not really an ETA. We buy new ones if we have a lot of demand for them. Best thing is to sign up for the in-stock notification on the product page.

Tom Norris

Know if you will run across a bezel/outer frame? Tom

Powerbook Medic

@Rick - they are used or pulled from a brand new one. We have not found a supplier for the standalone digitizers yet.

Rick

The replacement LCD/Digitizer assy's that you sell are all used?

Dan

I like the tear down guide but you didn't complete the last crucial step - addressing the very common issue of damage to the Nexus 7 screen requiring the remove of the LCD/digitizer from the frame. Probably pretty simple but would have liked to have seen it in the video.

Travis

Is the digitizer screen going to reduce in cost in the foreseeable future. Right now the cost is just to close to a new unit, but I would like to fix the broken unit I have.

Powerbook Medic

@Naveed & iqbal - we sell the LCD cable in the part list to the right. If the cable you need is not listed, it is not available separately.

Iqbal

I have broken that cable which is opposite to display cable, what that cable is for? is that replaceable?

Naveed

Is digitizer cable of Nexus 7 is replaceable? if yes, where can I get one?

Powerbook Medic

@Diane - we sell replacement LCDs in the part list to the right.

Diane

What about the cracked screen?

Moy

Thanks.

Powerbook Medic

@Moy - we don't have a repair guide specifically for that repair, no. As far as the warranty, most of our parts come with a 1 year warranty, you can go to the product page for more details.

Moy

Ohh I see. Is there any video that shows me how to do that? What about warranty? Does it come with any?

Powerbook Medic

@Moy - you have to take it apart to the point you can isolate just the LCD and Digitizer, then put it back together with the replacement you purchase.

Moy

How do you change a broken glass screen/ LCD for the Nexus 7? The video doesn't really help.

Powerbook Medic

@christian - we sell them in the part list to the right. If we are out of stock, you can sign up for an in-stock notification on that page and you'll be emailed as soon as it comes back in stock.
