@alex - you may want to try restoring it with iTunes if it will let you to rule out any software issues. Otherwise it is probably the battery or the logic board.

Powerbook Medic

@sai - if it doesn't turn on it could be several issues including the battery, logic board, or LCD. you should probably take it somewhere to get diagnosed.

@Shea It's a 2G

Powerbook Medic

@Shea - A1203 is a 1st gen iPhone, sometimes called a 2G. As far as your issue, I would see if you can restore it to factory defaults in iTunes to rule out a software issue.

Shea

Moms boyfriend gave me an 8g model #a1203, it has a metallic silver back case. I charged it for half hour and it turned on but didn't get past apple symbol, after unplugging it I was able to access the main screens and aps, but after a few mins the screen went black, now all I it does is periodically shows a white screen. What could be the problem? Also is this phone a 3 or 3GS? and is the silver case factory or aftermarket thanks

no updates from anyone

Powerbook Medic

@Fernando - we carry the boxes in the part list to the right, but they don't typically include the manual.

Fernando De La Rosa

I need very urgent a iPhone 1st Gen 4gb Box with the manuals it is very impotant

Powerbook Medic

@Samuel - if you have done a jailbreak and unlock, I can't really help you there. If it's a hardware issue it could be the antenna or logic board.

Samuel

Hi cn sm1 help me, i've rebooted my iphone A1203 so nw it doesnt have network anyone help plz i dnt knw wht 2 do nw

Powerbook Medic

@Guest - you'll need a new front case assembly, most likely. your digitizer either came unplugged or has gone bad.

Guest

Do you know how to fix the screen ? what i mean is that my iphone wouldnt let me unlock it i tryed sliding it but it wont let me unlock

Powerbook Medic

@zahid - then you'll probably want to replace the front case assembly.

zahid

touch plate promblem

Powerbook Medic

@niki - i'm not sure what you mean. If your iphone is not detecting your wireless, you may have an antenna or logic board issue. If it detects your wireless but isn't able to connect, it is most likely an issue with your iphone or router settings.

This is the most awesome video and information on the internet for iphone disassembly. It is clear and no non sense. After watching this I am going to try to replace the battery. I know this is the most difficult thing and requires soldering, but its worth the effort. and WOW, they have parts!!

whitecrane_99

very inspiring video for those who wish to open their iphones.....very helpful, thank you!!!!!

marjorie garianala

this video is very helpful i am able to disassemble my 1phone at no sweat

Powerbook Medic

@gil - if the parts go bad on their own and not because of a new incident (dropping, water damage, etc), yes, we will replace it for the first year.

gil

so if i buy used products and they break will i get a refund?

Powerbook Medic

@gil - we haven't tried it ourselves but they look exactly the same, so I don't see why it wouldn't. We've done an 8GB to a 16GB and that worked fine.

gil

Hey man can you replace the memory unit from a 4gb to a 16gb with no problems at all? please respond in detail because i am going to repair this 2g iphone into a full working iphone to sell so you will be getting around 80 dollars!

Powerbook Medic

@gil - the new digitizers may be aftermarket depending on the current availability. used ones are always Apple original.

gil

Are all the iphone parts the original parts for iphone 2g(1st generation) that you have for sale?

gil

So they most likely wouldn't have a problem installing into the iphone?

Powerbook Medic

@Cindi - it sounds like it may just need a new battery.

Cindi O

Have Iphone classic, was my brother-in-laws I don`t think he used it much since he couldn`t figure it out, It was not charged, plugged it in and it showed the battery, with red line but doesn`t show it charging, then it showed the cable on the screen pointing to itunes??? I unplugged it and pushed the on button. everything came up and asked to slide to unlock, did that, and pushed itunes, which it then said was unable to connect, then it went off, said battery low, since I have no manual for it I don`t know if it just needs to charge fully or if the battery is shot.

Powerbook Medic

@Abhijeet - you'll need to restore it in iTunes.

@Anam - i would try to restore it first. just to rule out a software issue. you may have to go into DFU mode to get it to restore if it isn't getting far enough to be detected by the computer.

Anam

Powerbook Medic

@Hunter - you'll most likely need to replace the LCD and Digitizer Assembly.

Hunter

Hi! My iPhone (1st generation) has a problem with the sensor behind the glass and at the of the screen there are these weird gray lines that go thru the top part. Thanks, Hunter.

Powerbook Medic

@Jay - the mic is included with the Battery Cover Assembly sold in the list to the right. Labor would be an additional $35 if you want us to do the repair for you.

Jay

hi Mr./Mrs. Powerbook Medic, many thanks for returning my messages. could you let me know if it cost alot for changing the mic? thanks again, J

Powerbook Medic

@Jay - its hard to say the two issues may not be related, i'd probably get it professionally diagnosed. it could be the logic board or the mic.

Jay

upps, by the way, my iphoe is a 2G 8GB thank you. Jay

Jay

further more for my previous question, while talking on the phone, the communitaion some time would be really difficult for other party to hear what i was telling them. thanks again, Jay

Jay,

Hi, you have posted a perfect guide learning video. I really hope you could help me on this, sometime my iphone 2G would froze on me and couple time i could not even turn it off. then the Lcd screen and the back of the phone would turn really hot, by any chance you have any idea with it.... any help would be really appreciated. and if i really need to replace something, could you please let me know where can i find them. once again thank you very much. Jay

Powerbook Medic

@george - it could be the digitizer cable has gotten a tad loose or crooked, but it most likely will require a new digitizer.

george

the top 1 inch doesn't work.

Powerbook Medic

@Maria - the 2G is the first gen. 2G in that sense is signifying iphones with just the Edge data network also known as 2G. For the issue, yes that is typically just the battery.

Maria

I just posted a comment about the touchscreen. I want to ask about the phone turning on. I read through the comments and someone asked about it already and I just want to make sure if the answer you gave them is the same issue with my question. If the phone is plugged in and you can only see the icon of the red bar with the electrical symbol and it never charges yet the charging cable works fine with another iPhone, does this mean that the battery needs to be changed? Can it also mean that the iPhone does not recognize that it is plugged in and the battery might still be good? How would someone go about troubleshooting this without having to buy unecessary parts for the phone?

Maria

I wanted to ask, when looking for a touchscreen to replace the broken one on my iPhone, I come across several that say 2G or 3G. I am not sure if I am finding the right one if I type in 1G. I have researched and usually come up with 2G information. What is the correct way to look for anything having to do with this iPhone, the very first one that came out with the metal back? It's an 8G model. I see parts for the iPhone here on the right of this page. Are they for the iPhone I have? I typed in the model off my iPhone's back and found this page.

Powerbook Medic

@Breanna - either your digitizer has become partially unplugged or it needs to be replaced. You'll really have to open it up or send it to us to check.

Breanna

My apple iphone 2g will turn on, show the apple icon sit like that and then their is like a little spinning circle below the apple and it does that for a bit like its loading then shuts off, i can get it to connect to itunes, but it makes me restore it, and then when i try to turn it on after it does the same thing again. sorry if this is confusing.

can someone please tell me which one of the wires on the 2g battery is ground.. is it black or white??..

Powerbook Medic

@John - it depends on the severity of the liquid damage, but to fix the touch issue, you'll need at least a new digitizer. probably best to have it professionally diagnosed to see the extent.

John C

My phone got wet and now I can't unlock it. I can turn it on and off, but the bottom part of the screen is not touch sensitive.(Can't slide the bar image) Seems like everything works, it rings, it displays calls and texts, I just can't unlock it. Any recommendations? Thanks
