Anthony 11 years ago	Hello. I have a powerbook g4 and when I install the 2nd hdd in the optical bay none of the hard drives are found. Just a blank screen. Can you help?
Powerbook Medic 12 years ago	@Brendan - installing a dualdrive is just like installing a replacement optical drive. You may find more info on that on your model's own repair guide.

M.Hansen 12 years ago	@Powerbook Medic - Thanks for you reply, I've figured out the problem. The HDD's 3Gbit SATA was apparently to fast for the IDE/PATA connection in the computer. So I placed a jumper on the HDD which has slowed down the speed to 1,5Gbit/s.. This seems to do the trick.. Regards Mads

Powerbook Medic 12 years ago	@Jimmy - try the dualdrive one more time and confirm it still doesn't work. If it doesn't, it may be defective.

Powerbook Medic 12 years ago	@Jimmy - i'd hook back up your optical drive and make sure it still gets detected fine. if yes, try the dualdrive one more time and if it still doesn't work, it may be a faulty dualdrive. If the optical drive doesn't work, it would be either the optical drive cable or the port on the logic board.
Jimmy, 12 years ago	I installed 60 GB SSD in MBP late 2007 model for OS, and use old HD for dual drive it does't show up any where even in the disk utility, but I can feel power is on the drive,
Powerbook Medic 12 years ago	@Hansen - we haven't experienced this in shop, so I'm not really sure what the issue could be. It could be a power issue.. so I would see if the same thing occurs while the machine is plugged in. If you can't figure it out, if you bought it from us, you can return it for a refund.
M.Hansen 12 years ago	I'm experiencing the same thing Nick does. The second hard drive ejects by itself.. Usually after waking from sleep. Nick 13 years ago	I installed the dual drive on my black macbook. but the extra drive keeps disconnecting. all the wires are in solid. Seems like OS is rejecting or something. Anyone seen this?

Thomas 13 years ago	Couldn't install in my 13" mbp without having to do away with the black plastic end piece (it interfered with the pressed in optical drive slot guide). is that the issue on all MBPs?

Powerbook Medic 13 years ago	@Antoine - these drives don't come preformatted, so if you haven't done that yet, check Disk Utility and see if it shows up there.

Powerbook Medic 14 years ago	The dual drive has the adapter built in to go from a SATA interface to the appropriate connector for your optical drive cable.
Jony 14 years ago	I'm excited to put in a new drive, but I'm confused: isn't the optical drive in a MBP (3.1) ATA/IDE? So I would not be able to use an SSD because they are all S-ATA? Thanks.
Powerbook Medic 14 years ago	@Luis - yes you can. any hard drive with that standard connection will work.

Powerbook Medic 14 years ago	@Chris - we haven't had any reported problems with that. Some machines are more cramped than others, but you typically won't use the 2nd hard drive for the operating system, so it won't be used as much.

Corey 14 years ago	I installed the Unibody version in my Unibody i5 MBP, the MacBookPro6,2 model. One, I had to remove the plastic bezel at the front of the drive for it to fit into the laptop. Second, the optical drive has two screw securing it on the top plate, which this unit doesn't have. So, there's only one screw securing the DualDrive sled. Other than that, install wasn't too rough.

Torrey 14 years ago	Hi guys. I just put a 500g @ 7200 in my mbp 17 inch unibody (I have a 128 SSD). Here is my findings, as I hope this helps people as I just dove in on my brand new 3,000$ laptop. Fits ok, but actually doesn't have anything holding it in except the black arm that hangs over the indented part of the drive. (the kind of lower arm part) The 2 MAJOR THINGS ARE THE FOLLOWING... I had to cut/modify the extra plastic piece that powerbookmedic put on the side of the drive. To see just hold the superdrive next to the new drive. You can see the difference is just the 1 inchX 1/4 inch plastic that is overset. Also when placing the drive in I had to use a secondary jewlers screwdriver to wedge it in slightly. Also the drive has some magnetic properties and seemed to fit securely despite the lack of screws. Actually I guess this could be a negative, but the fan is so solid it actually made me feel at piece that the drive wouldn't move. Summery- It works on the new 17inch macbook pro unibody, but be prepared for some slight mods and a few extra original mac screws left over. I hope this helps you guys.
Powerbook Medic 14 years ago	@AJ - We haven't gotten an i7 in the shop yet, but from the pictures we've seen, there shouldn't be a problem, but I can't make any guarantees until we get our test machine.

Jeremy 15 years ago	How do I get the optical drive out of the current unibody mbps with integrated Battery? Is the guarantee void after installing this or is there no seal? Does the HDD go to sleep mode if it is not used? Planing to use this with the Apple BTO SSD.

Makazaru 15 years ago	Please make sure you make it abundantly clear how to install this thing. I am now very happy with it, but the amount of frustration it caused during installation was incredible. The dualdrive cannot be installed on a 15", non unibody Macbook Pro, without removing the top cover of the dualdrive as well as the silver front bezel. Not to mention a great deal of the screw holes do not line up very well with the brackets used by the DVD drive in the previously mentioned MBP. Please fix this, otherwise I would not be able to comfortably recommend an otherwise great idea, and decent product to my friends.
Powerbook Medic 15 years ago	@Josh - No, all of your operating system is still on the main hard drive. You are just adding a 2nd hard drive for additional storage. You can get an external enclosure for the superdrive.
Josh Berry 15 years ago	If you install a dual drive, do you have to reinstall all applications that you had on your first drive? I'm assuming you don't, because the mac only analyzes the new drive, correct? And also, if you take out the DVD drive, are you able to use it as an external DVD drive, or do you have to buy a new one?

Leo 15 years ago	The fit of the caddy is not ideal for the 17" unibody. I had to remove the plastic on the end near the slot. An optimized version is called for. Hope you guys can address this.

Leo 15 years ago	Just got the Unibody model. The video should mention that it is different than shown. There is no top cover on the unibody model so I am not sure if I need to remove anything before securing the drive in it.
